Dinghy Wheels That Actually Survive the Slipway

A worn trolley wheel or a missing axle pin shouldn't be the reason your boat stays on the road. Our range covers heavy duty 4-ply pneumatic launching trolley wheels built to handle the rough terrain between car park and waterline, our own ILCA/Laser and Pico-compatible launching trolley wheel with a 26mm bore for a direct fit, an 8" trailer road wheel for getting your boat to and from the water, and all the small but essential hardware, R pins, securing pins, and axle washers that keep everything rolling as it should.

Choosing the Right Trolley Wheel for Your Boat and Launch Site

Not all trolley wheels are the same specification, and fitting the wrong one causes more problems than the worn wheel you're replacing. The key measurement is the bore, our ILCA, Laser, and Pico compatible wheel uses a 26mm bore rather than the industry standard 25.5mm, specifically because older Laser and Pico trolley axles run slightly oversized, and because a rusted axle hub often needs the extra clearance to fit properly.

It is 4 ply rated to 305kg at 42 PSI, which puts it well above the load requirements of any dinghy in this class. For general dinghy use where class compatibility is not a requirement, the Heavy Duty 4 Ply Pneumatic Wheel is ideal. If you are transporting your boat on a road trailer rather than a launching trolley, the 8" Trailer Road Wheel is the correct choice. If you store your boat outside for extended periods, it is worth covering the wheels or removing them between sessions.

    FAQ

What are dinghy wheels used for?

Dinghy wheels, also called a dinghy trolley or dinghy dolly, are used to move a boat from your car or storage area down to the water's edge without carrying the full hull weight. They sit under the hull and roll across slipways, beaches, and hard standings.

What size dinghy wheels do I need for a beach launch?

For beach launching, choose dinghy wheels with wide pneumatic tyres, typically 26 cm or larger in diameter, so the trolley rolls over sand and shingle rather than sinking. Narrow solid tyres suit concrete slipways but struggle on soft ground.

Can I use a dinghy trolley for an inflatable boat?

Yes, a dinghy trolley designed for inflatable boat wheels uses a wide, padded cradle so the hull does not get pinched or distorted during transport. Check the weight rating matches your inflatable's loaded weight before buying.

What is a folding dinghy trolley?

A folding dinghy trolley is a dinghy launching trolley with a collapsible frame that packs flat for storage in a boot or locker. Most folding designs take under a minute to deploy and stow, making them popular with single-handed sailors.

How do I choose the best trolley for a dinghy?

Match your dinghy wheels to three things: your hull type, the weight of the boat, and your most common launch surface. A lightweight boat launching trolley in corrosion-resistant aluminium suits saltwater club sailors, while a heavy-duty steel dolly suits larger, heavier hulls on sheltered inland sites.
